We Perform Pain-Free Dental Extraction
At Edison Dental, we are a comprehensive dentist that offers everything from dental cosmetic surgeries to periodontal treatment. Our compassionate staff provides dental care for patients from Plainfield to New Brunswick.
Tooth extraction is a common dental procedure that you may require for several reasons:
- Trauma or decay
- Crowded teeth
- Gum disease
Do You Need an Extraction?
A dental filling, crown, or root canal may be able to save your tooth — but only if the problem is caught early! That is why it is so important to come in once or twice a year for a regular check-up or to schedule an appointment if you experience unexplained pain.
We offer two types of tooth removal, both of which are pain-free.
A simple extraction is performed with local anesthetic. During this procedure, a dentist will loosen the tooth with an “elevator” tool and then remove it with forceps.
In contrast, a surgical extraction is necessary when a tooth is below the gum line. This may occur because the tooth has broken that far down or because it hasn’t come in yet. A surgical extraction sometimes requires general anesthesia.
Do You Need Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Wisdom teeth removal may be the most common (and necessary!) form of surgical tooth removal. Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that grow in between the ages of seventeen and twenty-five, and they can cause a lot of problems:
- Crowding in your mouth
- Aches & pains
- Difficulty eating
- Sinus issues
- Cavities & infections
- Inflamed gums
Often, even if you aren’t suffering from any of these symptoms, your dentist will recommend that you remove these teeth to prevent later problems. Ideally, this procedure is done before the root develops fully when a patient is in their mid to late teens. Patients may receive either anesthesia or local anesthetic.
What Is Recovery Like After Wisdom Teeth Removal?
Recovery typically takes about a week, but it is important that you follow your dentist’s recommendations. Commonly, this includes drinking lots of water, spending at least 24 hours on a liquid diet, using ice packs, and avoiding several actions that can irritate the teeth’s now-empty sockets.
We Offer Emergency Tooth Removal
We know that our patient’s dental worries don’t sleep or take holidays. That’s why we are a 24-hr dentist, ready to provide the urgent care that you need whenever you need it.
